22 years ago, I said what?

It is hard to believe but 22 years ago today I was walking to into the local court-house to say, “I DO”!

Today is my husband’s and my 22nd anniversary!

Long story short, I was a senior in high school and we had been dating for 2 months, when the Air Force said in 3 months you are moving to Berlin, Germany.  We both said, “I can’t live without you,” so we went down to the city courthouse and eloped a few weeks later.  YES, my parents were just a wee bit upset with us since I still was in high school but I was young and in love what can I say?  So then my grandma found out and said, “we need to be married under the eyes of God,” so 6 weeks later my AMAZING mother(who was one year younger than I am now) threw together a wedding at the church we attended.  Over the next 2 months I quickly finished up my high school classes so I could graduate high school early because we were moving to Berlin.

Here is what our wedding looked like 22 years ago!

Us and our wedding partying. How cow we look so young!

Us and our wedding partying. How cow we look so young!  Can someone tell me what we were thinking when we picked out those bridesmaids dresses?

My side of the family who was at the wedding. Unfortunatly my one set of grandparents are here on earth any longer but I am so blessed they were around for this special day of mine.

Here we are with my husbands side of the family. We were blessed beyond measure that so many of his family could fly in to join us.

Me and my dad. I don't don't remember my dad every being that nervous before.

If we only knew where life would take us over the next 22 years walking down that aisle.

We look so sweet and innocent back then!

Now in my wildest dreams I never thought that over the next 22 years we would be living in 5 different countries, have 4 GREAT(ok not all the time) kids, you would serve long enough to retire from the Air Force and craziest part….your first civilian job would take us to Bydgoszcz, Poland!

Best part in our story is that we have 3 wedding anniversaries, the court-house, the Lutheran church and the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints temple marriage.  So if the hubby misses one, he has 2 more to redeem himself.

We did not have a formal honeymoon after our wedding since we were young and broke back then and I still was in school and one could say the 22 years have been a honeymoon for us since literally have been all over the world.  If you could have a honeymoon anywhere and money was not an object, where would you go?

I stayed at the Maya Ubud in Bali, Indonesia. It has been my favorite place in the world and a place I dream of going back. The people were so friendly and amazing, it was beautiful and peaceful up in the mountains. I could go on, but check it out!

    Happy Anniversary!

Time flies when you’re having fun. (And once you turn 40, it flies anyway.)

We had a great time at your wedding..

    • It was a fun 2 days with everyone! Especially meeting the never ending aunts that I was marrying into. But I can’t imagine my life now without the never ending aunts and uncles and countless cousins that have joined the family the last 22 years!
