A Visit to….Sopel Christmas Ornament Factory

One thing that Poland is known for is…Christmas ornaments!  I bet you if you go through your Christmas ornaments at least one is made in Poland.  Well who would have thought but there is a factory right here in Bydgoszcz!!!  So several friends and I were able to take a tour through the factory and learn more about this neat work of art.  Yes, these are a work of art.

We went to visit the Sopel Factory.  They have been making ornaments in their family since the 1930′s.

I  I just might have to try to get one of these!

First they gave us a tour from start to finish how they are made.  The lady who blows the glass can blow anywhere from 300 to 700 in a 8 hour work day depending on the size, CRAZY!!   Then we were off to tour their showroom of the different ones they have made throughout the years and then finally we went to sales room.  Yes, I bought a few because what we pay in US  dollars in the US, I paid in zlotys here.    I after the Christmas rush I am going to special order a few for next year!

Well here are a few pictures of how the tour went!

What is your favorite Christmas ornament hanging on your tree?  Mine, one of my great-grandma’s of St. Nicholas.

Oh wow! This was fun to read about! I was amazed they still made them by hand! What a talent, especially the lady who could do 300-700 an hour!! Amazing!! That would definitely be something I would enjoy seeing with that tour!!

I didn’t put up a tree last year and might not this year, so I’m trying to think back what a favorite ornament is. I’ve downsized a lot as we’ve moved around and sent a whole bunch of my mom’s to my sister, but I liked the little angels that my mom had from when she first started decorating trees years ago.

thanks for sharing this time with us!
