A visit to…The Soap Museum(Muzeum Mydła)

Last week my oldest daughter and I went we with several other people to check the newest museum here in Bydgoszcz, The Soap and History of Dirt.  I can’t say I have ever been to a museum about soap and dirt before and this seemed like a good field trip for my daughter since she going to school online.

Inside the museum we learned about bathing and washing from many centuries.  You are able to climb into a few different bathtubs from through the years.  I will have to say I appreciate my Jacuzzi bathtub more after visiting!

Bathtubs and showers throughout time.

They also had small collection of old soaps and I not sure how clean you got after using some them.

Along with the history of  bathing they show the cleaning of laundry throughout the years.  My daughter just about died when she saw they did laundry in the “old” days.

Time to do some laundry.

Currently  all the signs are in Polish but we had a GREAT guide who translate everything for us as well as gave a more in-depth history of soap.  They are working on getting signage in English soon.

Time to make some soap!

At the end of the museum you get to make to make your own bar of soap to take home.   One would like it would be easy but it’s not!  You have to decide from over 15+ molds(I recommend the city of Bydgoszcz ones!), then you decide from 8+ oils for the smell, then you have to decide what color you want and then finally you have to decide if you want to add anything to your mold like glitter, oatmeal, poppy seeds, flowers, shells and etc.

They also have some unique soap for sale as well.

For more information about this neat museum check out their website HERE.

What is your favorite smell of soap?  Mine is vanilla!
