Happy Wet Monday (Śmigus-Dyngus)
Today is unique holiday here in Poland. It is called Śmigus-Dyngus or in easy words, Wet Monday!
Traditionally, boys throw water over girls and spank them with pussy willow branches. In the old days boys would sneak into the girls houses and get them while they were still sleeping. Now a days, I have yet to hear anyone doing that but kids do it in now in the streets, sidewalks, parks and such. Today we went over to a friends house and took part of this unique tradition with them and their neighbors. The weather was great here so the kids had the perfect day for getting wet. While the boys were suppose to be getting us girls wet, I think the kids got control of the water balloons and got us adults wet more than anything else today.
Let the games begin!
I think they are having a wee bit of fun.
Here comes the stick.
We moved on to the broom now.
Now this is a true friend that hides behind another friend! Oh, and the best part with the guy in the back, he is 95 years old had tells the most AMAZING WWI and WWII stories especially when he was held captive by the Nazi’s during the war and had to work on a farm in Germany along side British military soldiers who were held captive.
After all the playing we went inside for a “snack.” I didn’t make much for you to eat!
The weather is GORGEOUS here today so we end the afternoon with a walk in the forest.
We came across this neat little lake.
Even the dog went for swim since it was nice out.
The perfect way to end an AMAZING holiday weekend!
Is this not a neat unique tradition they have here in Poland?
