Hello Timeshares Rentals Goodbye Hotels!
One of the pro’s of being in the military is all the traveling we get to do. My husband and I have lived in 5 different countries over the last 20 years that we have been married. Now that he is officially retired from the military we were blessed to get a job offer at the first job he applied for which allowed us to stay in Europe and move us to Poland. While, I know many of you would love to have lived in Germany, Panama, the Netherlands, Poland, Miami, St. Louis, Omaha and North Dakota like we have because of all the travel opportunities but there is a negative, it costs $$$! When you have a big family like I do you can’t just hop in your car or plane and quickly book a hotel room for your next adventure because we are now a 2 hotel room family. Most rooms only sleep 4 people max but there was times when the kids were babies that we did seek a kid or two into a room or two because I couldn’t see paying for a bed that they are not going to sleep on nor for a breakfast that they are not going to eat. BUT now that my kids are older this is not an option anymore!
Recently my son who is off in the USA for university came home for the summer and we were working on planning trips to see this part of Europe and when you try to find a hotel for 6 people all I can say is “OUCH!” So needless to say we did all a lot of day trips this summer but we did do a week in Warsaw, Poland because we found a great apartment that we were able to rent for a week for a great price! One of the reasons why we mainly look for apartments is because with 2 different age groups in our family it is nice to have separate bedrooms to put the little kids to sleep in when the older ones want to stay up and watch TV or surf the internet. I love the fact that there is usually a full equipped kitchen so we do not have to eat out every meal and I can a meal to help save some more $$$.
A couple of summers ago we went back to the good ole’ USA to visit family and friends. unfortunately my family is in North Dakota and my husband’s side is in Washington state so they are not real close and when you are back for less than 2 weeks spending 4 days of driving back and forth was not an option so we decided to meet my parents in Montana for 5 days. They hoped on the train for 6 hours and we drove in our car for 5 hours and meet-up in a National park there. Now I had to look for hotel rooms for 8 people now, double OUCH! My saving grace, a timeshare rental!! I was able to rent 2 side-by-side apartments that slept 4 each for cheaper than economy hotel in the same area. With a Timeshare we had a living room(s) to have conversations in, a kitchen to cook food in, lots of bathrooms to get ready in, a full service restaurant, FREE parking, a playground, a community room that has games and movies that we could check out and big pool compared to the average hotel pool.
We are trying to plan a few more trips this fall to tag along with my husband on a few of his business trips. While we had one fly the “coop” already we are still a 5 person family. I am skipping hotels and going straight to look for apartments and timeshare rentals. One such site I have found is RedWeek. This timeshare website, rents, sells and swap timeshares all over the world. Membership is FREE to look around and see if there anything that fits your needs. If you see a timeshare that you are interested in you pay just $14.99 for a yearly membership that allows you to contact owners about available units, access thousands of resort reviews, and want ads. While roaming around RedWeek there were few that caught my eye for a possible trip to Denmark and when we go back to the states next summer as they are located all over the world.
Enough talking and back to planning some family trips!
If you could get a FREE week at a timeshare where would you go?
