I really hate traffic!

As you know my littlest ones are in a new school this year, so that means I have to figure out driving routes for before and after school.   The other day I thought I would run over to REAL(Polish version of Wal-Mart or K-Mart) and get a couple of things the girls need for school that we did not get yet.  Well I missed my first turn as no one would let me to the lane, so I thought I would zig-zag my way through the downtown part on side streets to get where I was going.  WRONG!  What should have taken me no more than 10 minutes to get from the school to the store, took me 30+ minutes only to get half way there.  The girls were getting tired and so was I, so one point instead of turning right, I turned left and went home.

The positive on all of this is that I spend 20 minutes or so just driving down this one block. I happen to have my camera in my car, so I took a few pictures of the interesting buildings we have here in Bydgoszcz.

Love the iron work they have around this city like this one.

The beautiful here too! If they were refinished to their orginal state, I can only imagine what they would look like.

All sorts of neat features these building once had.

Some buildings are pretty and others not so much anymore.

These little alleyways go through the bottoms of many of the buildings here to the backyards of the buildings. I would love to walk through some of them and see what the backside look like.

This little girl was walking by and one of my girls wanted me to take a picture of her hair so I can try to do her hair like that one day. I can't even french braid and she wants me to do that?

Not sure if I am in Holland or Poland looking at this house.

It  is funny how life gets to busy to enjoy the views around us.  So it was fun to really look at these houses up close and personal for a change.  But I still really hate traffic!  So note to self for next time we are going directly home or not ever missing that turn again!!

What is the worse traffic you have experienced? When we lived in Panama they would make 2 lane roads 3 lanes and you would have people selling you stuff in the streets at the same that you had to dodge.

Is there some reason you can’t use the excellent Bydgoszcz public transport system? So American, driving everywhere….

When I was young (in school) my dream was to buy a car and don`t use public transport. I hate to freeze and wasting time at bus stops. I fulfilled this dream. I would like to add that only one public transportation that is OK its London tube (as long as you live and work on the metro line).

    • Fred,

Believe me I would if I could! I LOVE the trams(not always the smell though)! Unfortunately were we live out in the north end of town the buses only come once on the hour(no trams in our neck of the woods) but in order to get to that bus stop which is about a 12 minute walk, I would have to walk on a road for about 5 minutes that does not have a side walk just a steep drop on both side with LOTS of traffic on it. During the winter time, no thanks. There is probably a reason why there is 2 crosses on that road and I don’t want us to be #3,4 & 5. If I planned it out perfectly timed it would take us 45 minutes if I caught all the buses right or I can drive it in 12 minutes. But if I missed the bus, we are looking at over an hour and a half.

Bad planning, then–renting a house where there is no access to public transport!

    • If only life was that easy! But when a Komornik knocks on your door and wants to start taking your personal items to pay for your landlords outstanding debt, you move into the first house find, like we did. And now that we have been in this house for a couple of months, I am willing to drive anywhere I have too, to have a yard where my kids can run and play in, not to have to deal with the smell of coal and burning garbage when people heat their houses and not having to deal with neighbors being nosy to see who is all coming into my house, all of which I dealt with in my last house! I LOVE my country house! Now if they city would just build a sidewalk so I could walk to the busy stop and not being worried if I am going to hit or not that would be even better!!
