Saturday according to my youngest 2 kids…”this is the GREATEST day EVER” celebrating International Kids Day 2014.
Before moving to Poland I had never heard of this day before but here it is hugely popular and celebrated throughout the whole town. The girls school, Sokrates celebrated the day with several classes doing performances, games, food and other activities. The highlight of the was the Open House for the new school building they moved to on Monday. It was the first time that we got to go inside the building.
Us international parents and a few others brought some food from our home countries to share. What did I make to represent the USA? Chocolate chip cookies of course!
One of the parents brought these AMAZING cheese stuffed tomato’s. They were almost to pretty to eat.
We live in Poland so of course there was going to be Polish food too!
It is hard to believe that last year the school only had 2 international kids from 1 country and this year there were 12 kids representing 4 countries and next year there will be even more international kids from 3 more countries!!
What kids event wouldn’t include face painting?
Several of the classrooms did a few skits for us.
LOVE the home-made costumes.
Here this class did a skit that mixed lots of different fairy tales. The little boy was memorized by the 3 little pigs but unfortunately they were not as memorized with him.
The music club did a Chopin musical number for us.
Here are the older international kids saying Polish poems. 2 of the kids in the picture are just AMAZING. They moved here last August speaking no English or Polish now speak 3 languages!
For a twist they had a Polish parent try to say a English tongue twister and a international parent say a Polish tongue twister. This was a HOOT!
A local group of girls came and preformed for us. They did such a good job.
By the looks of it the kids were having a great time.
“E” performing with the school dance group.
Even the Headmistress and a few important ladies (not sure what their titles meant when they read them) were getting into the dance.
This lady just amazes me with all of her energy. She is trying to get us to stand up and start dancing with her.
Of course the kids joined in a heart beat.
We could have not asked for better weather last Saturday.
Now time to go in and check the inside of the new school building!
What does inside look like? Well you will just have to wait till next week to see those pictures. All I can say it is wonderful! Monday morning the girls were up at 30 minutes before they had to be as they were that excited to go to their new classrooms.
How many schools did you attend growing up? “E” is only in 3rd grade is up to 4 school buildings!
