Is Rubella in Poland?

Is Rubella in Poland?

Yes it is!  I got this late last night from the US Embassy in Warsaw…..

“The U.S. Embassy in Warsaw calls the attention of U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Poland to a recent Travel Notice issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about recent cases of rubella (German Measles) being diagnosed in Poland.  “CDC recommends that all travelers to Poland protect themselves from rubella by being up-to-date on their rubella vaccine.  Pregnant women who are not protected against rubella either through vaccination or previous rubella infection should avoid traveling to Poland during this outbreak. This is especially important during the first 20 weeks of pregnancy.”   The full text of this Travel Notice with further information can be found here:”

So then when I was talking to my husband about this when I first read and it we both wondered what the heck in Rubella?  We both knew it was something that we got vaccinated for but that was about it!

So what is Rubella?

After an incubation period of 14–21 days, the primary symptom of rubella virus infection is the appearance of a rash (exanthem) on the face which spreads to the trunk and limbs and usually fades after three days. Other symptoms include low grade fever, swollen glands (post cervical lymphadenopathy), joint pains, headache and conjunctivitis. The swollen glands or lymph nodes can persist for up to a week and the fever rarely rises above 38 oC (100.4 oF). The rash disappears after a few days with no staining or peeling of the skin.

So if you are living here in Poland or traveling here to Poland, please keep this in mind as actually about 4 weeks ago a friend mine 5-year-old daughter had this.  But we did think much of that it was just a fluke.

I am the only one that Rubella did not exist anymore?
