Kayaking the Brda River

Last Saturday a friend of mine coordinated a kayaking trip down the canal and river that goes through Bydgoszcz.  I grew up canoeing so I was in complete heaven when she offered. Our first house here in Bydgoszcz was right next to the canal and always talked about kayaking in it but we just never did.

My husband was out town for business but luckily I found a friend that would be a partner for 1 of my girls since only 2 people can be in a kayak at a time.   The trip was about 13 kilometers long and took about 4 hours to do.  My girls we ready to finish when we were about 2/3 of the way through but once you start you have to finish as the end was closer then then starting spot. The girls were troopers with only a bit of complaining at the end.  :)

Here is our day…Kayaking the Brda River

I can't believe I am finally kayaking in this!

Time to go through the 1st of 2 locks. Just wee bit smaller than the Panama canal that I went through when we lived there a few years ago.

About 3 kilometers in the trip we had to stop and carry the kayakes over a part of it since the lock is under construction.

Perk for being one of the last ones and having to wait for the others behind you? Being able to go to the side and let "A" take a bathroom break in the trees.

I am looking for some genealogy contacts for your area. Bromberg to Gruczno area. My family lived in Luschkowko and immigrated to Elyria, Ohio in April 1903. Specifically a picture of my aunts grave. (Location unknown) Amanda Ottila Jaroch born 1901 August; died Oct 1901. The LDS records from Evangical church in Gruczno show this record. Is that church still in existence? What is the address? Any way I would appreciate any info
you might have that would help me in this quest. Thanks Paul Jaroch born 38017 Revere Dr.

Am hopeful of any related info you may find.
Other family names are Emil Ristau & Jenna Riernthaler & Luecke (Luck)
Ida Rissman, maybe then phone book listings in (Bromberg)
or Posen or Gruczno would show families of that last name??
    Thanks
