Our Newest Neighborhood Eatery!
I know you are probably wondering what is an “Eatery”? To be honest I don’t even know what it is but I am not sure what to call this place that opened up about a month ago at the end of the street from our house.
Here is what is looks like…..
It is a trailer! And what do they sell inside?
Doner Kebabs. OK now I am sure you have another question, what is that?
It is a Turkish dish made of meat cooked on a big round spinning thing! The meat should be made out of lamb but do not be surprised if it is made with a mixture of beef and chicken as well. The meat is served in a big pita pocket, sliced vertically into thin, crisp shavings. Toppings include tomato, onion, lettuce, pickles and about 50% shredded cabbage and topped with a yogurt or garlic sauce!
We LOVE Doner Kebabs!! We enjoyed our first one 21 years ago when we moved to Berlin, Germany. My husband got one after a Guns and Roses concert he went to see with some friends to celebrate his 21st birthday.
We have got a few Doner Kebabs before from here but the other night, life got a bit crazy for us so I headed down the street to got a couple for us. I decided to change it up and get the “Max” version for my hubby. Typically that means just double the meat, well guess what? Not here! It is double EVERYTHING!!!
Here is what a Max Doner Kebab looks like…
Here is what their “normal” one looks like…
Well needless to say, next time we will order a “Max” and just split that!
In the trailer they do sell a few other versions with doner meat along with french fries, hence the reason why I am not sure what to call this place!
We have lived and traveled into a few countries over the years, of all the places we have gone and ate a Doner Kebab my husband favorite is still by far is in Berlin. So when we go there one of the places we need to find is a Doner Kebab stand! Where is your place to get one?
