Pumpkin Jackpot

This morning I really wanted to get my front of my house finally finished decorated for the fall.  I had it half done with flowers and a few small pumpkins that I got from a friend the other day but with Halloween a week away I really wanted to finish the doorway up.  What do you think of my fall themed front door?

Yeah, I think have enough pumpkins. Now comes the fun part, carving them!

Yes, I know I have a TON of pumpkins but here is the best part of this whole post, how I got them this morning and the reason why I have so many of them!

A pheasant farm we drove past!

First  look what I drove past this morning.  A pheasant farm!

Oh, this brings back some some fun memories of my dad, uncle and grandpa pheasent hunting growing up and the nasty smell that goes with it when it came time to clean them.

This morning a friend and I head-out to find a farmer who had hay-bales to decorate with. We saw some at this farm and she knocked and asked them if they would sell any to us. They charged us 3 zlotys each($1) and when we drove around to get them from the barn we saw pumpkins and asked about them as a pumpkin patch was next on our list to drive too. Well it was one stop shopping for us! What I paid for them was a 1/4 of the price of what I would have at a local grocery store and the best part was I got them right from the farmer!  So how neat is that?

Time to drive behind the barn.

Here they come!

Here they come!

This guy was up in the loft part of the barn getting the hay-bales when we noticed the pumpkins on the ground. So we asked the lady if they were for sale. She said, "yes, and there are more under the tarp. Let me show you."

Just a few pumpkins to choose from, you think?

Of course the pumpkins we liked we had to dig for.

Here kitty, kitty!

Yep, I think I have enough pumpkins and hay-bales. Now my van smells like a farm.

No my Polish is not that good to go knocking on a complete strangers door to ask them these kind of questions so I am so glad to have a Polish friend that thinks like I do on stuff like this that will do all the talking for me. We defiantly hit the pumpkin jackpot today!!  Now comes the fun part of carving some of them but then comes the sad part as I am realizing that my son is not here to join us this family tradition and that he is staring his own Halloween traditions now and my adopted daughter is living LONG 6+ hour drive away this year so she will not be going us this year either like she did last year!

Oh, I hate getting old!

What Halloween traditions are you doing this year?

love kelley

It looks really good, actually seeing your photo has made me feel quite homesick as I just love giving out candy to all the little ones on Halloween!

  2. we finally made it to Bydgoszcz with intent of making a large purchase or ornaments at Sopel factory. Much to our dismay, the shop is not open nor is it producing ornaments. They open in Nov to sell their remaining stock. We had driven there from Krakow and then got stuck on the mountain detour for 5 hours at night due to a very very horrible accident a few vehicles ahead of us. Anyhow, the hotel people were just wonderful, extended our stay the next day so we could get some rest. That was Hotel Slonecny Mlyn. The factory folks told the receptionist that they would e-mail me in November with info on their offerings. Hope they do so. You must be a great navigator to find your way around Bydgoszcz!!! We were completely confused and are in awe as to how you get around that city. When we learned of the marathon there, we were soooo grateful that it was not on the day we were leaving town. Best regards, Patricia

    • What they are closing??? Noooo, I wanted to have some custom pieces done there. I guess I will make it a priority to give them a call ASAP. Well I hope you did not get lost to much here the factory is about 10 minutes from my house.
