Time for Another Visit to Torun

I mentioned before that a friend of mine living in Norway came to visit the last 6 days, so that meant lots of sightseeing and playing tour guide for her and her other 2 companions.  On Thursday we went to visit Torun as that is a must if you are in this part of Poland.

I guess living here now 2.5 years I am starting to take stuff for granted when I look around.  So it was interesting to look at this town from a tourist point of view like I did the first time 2 years ago.

Time for Another Visit to Torun….

Speaking of candy, this new candy store opened since the last time I was there. They make it all right there in front of you.

Torun is so cool. Before I went to Poland, I read how back in the middle ages, Polish grain marketers would build rafts up in the highlands, float them down the Vistula, pick up grain, and continue on to Gdansk, where they’d sell the grain for export–and then break up the rafts and sell the timber, too. (You’ve no doubt seen the old grain elevator in Gdansk.)

Torun was one of the major grain stops on the way. For me, it was really interesting to read about it, then see where it actually happened.

    Plus, it’s just a great-looking little city!

We will be visiting Torun (and Bydgoszcz – my husband’s home town) in a few weeks! Could you tell me more about the candy shop? Do you remember the name or location? Looks fun.

    Thanks!

    • I am really bad at street names here in Poland but when you make it the old city center you will see the statue of Copernikus and it was on the main street about 2 blocks down. Next time when I am down there I will find out for you.

Thank you! Those directions should be fine. We can’t wait for our trip. It’s been nine years since we lived in Poland. Our kids (5 & 7) are visiting for the first time. Thank you for your blog. We are really enjoying it.
