Time to Cook… Doritos Hotdish!

Welcome to Tasteful Tuesday’s!

Time to Cook… Doritos Hotdish!

One of goals for this year on my blog is to post a new recipe every Tuesday, so hence the name.  Of course I am going to have LOTS of Polish and other international recipes but I will have a few of my US ones that are too good not too share!

First up, one recipe that have been cooking since the first week I got married was Doritos Hotdish.

I got this recipe from a cookbook my mother-in-law put together when we got married 21 years ago.  So got recipes from LOTS of different family members and put them all in one book.  This came from one of my husband’s aunts.

We LOVE this one!  By no means is this a healthy recipe but this is a GREAT comfort one.  When someone is having a bad day or if the weather is just nasty or if we are craving something American this is our go to recipe!

It is a super simple recipe that my little kids love to help me make.

Now time to cook…

2 pound hamburger, 16 oz. canned crushed tomato, 18 oz. tomato sauce, 1/2 tsp. garlic powder, 1/2 tsp. oregano, 2 tsp. thyme, 2 C. shredded cheddar cheese and Doritos

Brown hamburger.

Add crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce.

Now add onion powder, thyme and oregano and stir.

Now let simmer on low for 15 minutes.

Crush the WHOLE bag of Doritos.  Put half the bag on the bottom of a 9×13 pan.

Top Doritos with hamburger mixture.

Top hamburger mixture with grated cheddar cheese.

Top cheddar cheese with the remaining Doritos.  Heat in a 350(175 Celsius)  degree oven for 15 minutes or until cheese is melted.

15 minutes later you have a WONDERFUL hot-dish. I usually serve it with corn and top it with a dab of sour cream.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do!!

What is your favorite food to cook when you are having a rough day? I just told you mine.

love kelley
