Tonight’s the BIG Premier!!!

Today’s the BIG day and I am beyond excited!!  In my wildest dreams I never thought this day would come, that I am going to be on a national TV show, House Hunters International.

That’s us!!!

OK, let me stop and rewind for those of you that do not know what I am talking about!  I started this blog 7 months ago (hence the reason for yesterday’s BIG giveaway!) with the intention of telling friends and family of what is happening in the Kagele family in Poland.  Then February 22nd my husband and I were getting ready to watch some TV before we went to bed, so I turned on my laptop to quick check my email.  One of them caught my eye because it was titled House Hunters International.  I am a HUGE fan of the show!!!  I love looking at the houses and wondering if some day my husband’s job will take us to that unique place and if we would have those same problems.  Well of course I opened the email…

My name is Kristen and I am writing to you from the American television show “House Hunters International”.  I came across your blog via ExpatBlog and I thought I would get in touch to tell you a bit about our program to see if you might be interested in being on our show.

“House Hunters International” tells the story of people who have picked up their lives and moved to foreign and exotic locations to pursue a new life.  We’re currently looking to cast people who have recently bought or rented a home in Poland.  Participation in the show is a lot of fun and a great way to document your new life in your new country. The show airs on the Home and Garden Network (HGTV) in the US and Canada and is one of the network’s highest rated programs.  If you’ve never seen our show, please have a look at the following link to see what it’s all about:xxx

If you’re interested in learning more, please drop me a line and I’d be very happy to tell you more about the show.

I look forward to hearing from you! Best regards, KRISTEN”

I quickly put down my computer and started laughing!! Now, I never thought to apply for the show in my wildest dreams, who would want to watch us?  I showed my husband the email and said you ready for a good laugh?  He read it and thought, WHAT??   So being the computer geek wiz that he is, he did a quick check to see if this was real and guess what? It was!  So of course I got out of bed, got the phone and called her!   Fast forward a week later, we submitted a video of the family and a walk through of your house to see if we make the final cut for the show.  Then a couple of weeks later we get the call, WE ARE IN!  When I called our realtor to talk to him about him being on the show, he about died.  “You want me to be on an American TV show?” He started laughing too!

Fast forward to April 21st, 08:00 I hear knocks on my door and what do you know, I am greeting by a bunch of strange Scottish men holding a TV camera and microphone.  OK they weren’t strange, they were actually a hoot to work with for the next 3 days.   And then there was our director, he was British and he was an AMAZING to work with as well.  I don’t think we could have got a better crew to work with in our Bydgoszcz location shoot.  We had another GREAT crew for out the Netherlands shoot.

Our amazing TV crew filming one of the shoots.

Yes, the show took us 4 days of filming for a 30 minute show including commercials.  Crazy, huh?  I do not want to give to much of the show away so I am not going to say the in’s and out’s yet!

But I would have to say those 4 days of filming was fast and furious and absolutely craziness.  I am not sure if I could handle being a real actor having to reshoot a shot 4 times but it sure was fun while it lasted.

Here are few behind the scenes shots of the shooting .

Uma(Dutch for Grandma) Atie getting her microphone on. She was our neighbor in the Netherlands and treated all 4 of our kids like grandkids.

Me, getting my microphone on for one of the scenes.

We heard “Stop, I am out of film, time to change tapes.” throughout the 4 days. If I remember right there was 17 hours worth of film.

One of the scenes!

It wasn’t all work, there was some play!

Jim getting his microphone hooked up.

A picture of Jim and I during our last shot and we are still smiling!

While at times over the 4 days it was a bit stressful but in the end this will be an experience that we will never forget!

I am as excited for tonight as a kid going into Toys’R’Us for the very first time!!

We haven’t seen a clip of the show yet, so we get to watch the show for the first time like you tonight.  So, I am praying that A. we don’t look like dorks, B. my butt doesn’t look too big and c. that we represented Poland well.

Want to watch us on House Hunters International?  It will be on tonight on HGTV at 10:30pm EST/PST and then again 3 hours later! Yes that means we will be up at 04:30am our time to watch it via Skype video since we don’t get HGTV over here in Poland unfortunately! :(  For those of you who don’t get HGTV either, don’t worry the show will be posted on Youtube soon.

I hope you enjoy the show!

If you could be on any reality show what would you be on?

love kelley

Hi – Saw the show and enjoyed “meeting” you, and your husband and daughters. My daughter and son-in-law live in Berlin (we’re in Washington State) and they were on HHI last May. It was quite exciting. Enjoy reading your blog. I’ve been to only one town and only for a day in Poland – Szczecin on a drizzly day – that didn’t leave the best impression. Would love to see more of Poland when we next visit Berlin.

    • Cheryl,

Welcome! We once lived in Berlin too and I love it there. We been back to Berlin a few times for holiday. My husband is from WA near Spokane and I have family that lives near the Seattle area. I haven’t made it Szczecin yet. I hope you keep enjoying my blog!

Kelley – I plan to keep on reading. My daughter is the ExpatBlog editor, so it was fun to read about HHI read about your move on EasyExpat. It really has become a much smaller world in the past few decades. My husband and I are thinking of expating when I retire (he retired this past May), so I’m very curious about how all expats are making their way in the world. Take care!
