Woo Hoo, women’s volleyball is back in Poland!
This weekend we headed down to Poznan to watch the kind of sort of start of the 2013/2014 professional Polish women’s volleyball season.
Are we volleyball junkies? In a weird sort of way I would say, “yes!” Now if you would have asked me a year ago what is a libra? How many points to do they play to in the 5th set? Or better yet, if you are a volleyball player does your national team or your professional team that you have a signed contract, which team out ranks the other one? I would have died laughing as all I knew about volleyball was that 6 people play on the court at a time and that you use your hands only. Now here we are traveling 3 hours to get to weekend tournaments and paying to stay at over priced hotels to watch them.
OK, for those of you new to my blog or haven’t been keeping up with my blog, almost 11 months ago, I met a fellow American playing professional volleyball here in Bydgoszcz, Rachael Adams. In the past 11 months she has been come another family member in our family (any kid that wishes you Happy Mother’s Day is a keeper)! And what does family do for family? Go to their away games! So off we went to see her play on her new team! She is playing for a different team this year that is a LONG 6 hour drive away!!
First up, I had to do my nails in the team colors!
I am driving where for what?
Let the volleyball games begin!
Rachael looking good in her new team uniform. Did I mention she flew in from the US only the day before the tournament not have met anyone before on the team? CRAZY!!
Even the nuns showed up to watch the games! And they got into it.
Oh, I missed seeing this!
I can tell she worked on her serves over the summer. I guess playing on the US national team and traveling all over the world, will do that to a girl.
Yes, they sell popcorn here in Poland just like in the US at sporting events.
Here is comes one of the fan clubs for the next game.
Guess who was Rachael’s biggest cheerleader there?
Fans come in all ages! I love watching the older men get into it.
And there she goes!
This is the first time the girls had to see and talk to Rachael since she left for the summer. It is great having our dear adopted daughter Rachael back and getting to watch her play in her first game in Poland. But watching E & A eye’s go huge as they see what their welcome back gift from her is….her US National volleyball team jersey’s….totally priceless!! This just proves it is not always about the money you spend on gifts but the thought!! They finally took them off this morning before going to school.
Getting her autograph. She needed the practice writing her new number.
Looking good in the new color.
Down she goes.
Up she goes.
Do not want to be at the receiving end of that ball.
And she is back!
This is our new American playing volleyball here in Poland, Kim Hill. This is her 1st year playing professional volleyball as she just graduated for university. She is playing on the Sopot team just north of us. She played with Rachael of the US National team this summer. She is a hoot and I have a hunch she will be over to the house a few times this year and the girls loved her too. She just flew into Poland the day before from the US never have met her coach or other team members before this tournament either.
Just a few fans at the Championship game.
Kim playing in her 1st professional game and they substituted her in to serve. No pressure!
There she goes!
Not only did she do a great serve but she did one heck of a save! Unfortunatly it wasn’t enough as Rachael’s team beat Kim’s team in 3 sets for the Champion title!
I love watching people come up to her to ask for pictures and autographs.
Yes I am biased but this was the best fan picture out of them all!!
The winning team!
Pictures don’t get any better than this!
Did I mention the girls LOVE Kim now too?
Well we know where not to park next time! Yes that is our van by the bus.
What a GREAT weekend to watch and catching up with Rachael and now Kim! So be on the look out for lots more volleyball posts coming in up the next few months!
Did you play sports and did your family travel to your away games? I played on a traveling soccer team and my parents were are every single of my away games until the day I graduated and it something I will never forget and appreciate now that I am older and wiser!
Only a couple more days of me asking!!
