Well that was a surprise!

It is hard to believe but our oldest daughter turned 18 on Sunday!  I am starting to feel old now.

One of the cons of living here for her is that since there was no school for her here in town, so she is going to on-line high school which means she hasn’t made a lot of friends here her age.  The friends she has made here are from the AMAZING church we go to as there are quite a few kids her age there.  So I though it would be nice to surprise her with a birthday party as she only turns 18 once.

Last night I invited all the kids(OK young adults as they say) from church and a few other friends and families that she tutors English for to a birthday party for her. For those of you that know me personally you know that I love to put parties together but this one was a challenge as she is home all day with me so it is not like I can do any prep work during the day without giving it away. So unfortunately I had to be very simple with the food that I could set up in less than an hour that I had.  She tutors English for 2 hours on Mondays after school to a family so they were my cover. Who will be earning the worse mom of the year award? That would be ME!!! I just made “L” clean the house for her own surprise birthday party, she thought it was for a meeting that she thought I am holding here at the house today!!

Well that was a surprise

When you get this many people under one roof there always going to be fun conversations.

Doesn't get more American then this...Subway sandwiches, veggie tray with homemade ranch dip, fruit bowl, potato chips and homemade salsa and chips!

Because of the way they pronounce certain letters like "i" and "y," Lydia's name is constantly spelled wrong. But we had the same issue in The Netherlands with "A's" name but with "a" and "e."

Hard to believe that this is going to be the last time in a while that she will be spending her birthday with us!

This cake was DELICIOUS! So worth the extra half and hour I am going to have spend on cross trainer this afternoon.

Once again it was another fun night in our house!  In 3 weeks we get to do another birthday party in house as the next kid is having a birthday but this time it is going to be a Zumba party.  The perk of having lots of kids…lots of birthdays!

What is your favorite birthday memory?
