As you know I have been CRAZY busy getting my over grown yard into a beautiful yard for all the summertime BBQ’s we like to do with friends!
I am putting the final touches on it and yesterday’s creation was my highlight…Wooden Shoe Flower Pots.
While living in the Netherlands I got a few of their wooden shoes or clogs at second-hand stores or flea markets. I would see in the backyard of many houses while living there of people using their old ones as flower pots and hang them on their fences. I thought this was a great idea and to remind me of the time living there I wanted to do the same to what ever house we moved to in Poland.
Yesterday I finally made my dream come true! Talk about super easy and cheap to do and the impact on my yard is priceless.
Yes, I collected lots of these shoes when we lived in the Netherlands.
Before heading over to the flower shop, I headed over to the hardware store and got these hangers and quick nailed them to the back of the shoe.
I headed down to my local flower place out in the middle of no where. Not a huge selection but great flowers and fun and very helpful couple run it.
Deciding what flowers go into what shoes and look good.
Obviously I need to put a hole or 2 in the back of them for drainage. I was going to drill some holes into them tomorrow but the guy at the flower shop quick did it for me. 4 minutes later 9 shoes were done!
One of the reason why I like going there is this guy will plant the plants into the containers right away for me along with adding additional dirt and fertilizer. He thought the idea was crazy at first putting the flowers in shoes but once he saw what they looked like he was converted. Yes, for 30 zloty (less than $10) I got 9 plants for my 9 shoes, holes drilled and him planting them for me. And now you know why I love this guy!
I think it turned out perfectly!
I am in HEAVEN with these flowers!
Heading into another part of our yard and I think these 2 fit perfectly there. I can’t wait until these grow a bit bigger and longer.
Remember that fish pond we cleaned out 2 weeks ago? Here is what it looks like today! You can see to the bottom and the rock on it and the best part…all 32+ fish!
I think I am in LOVE with my backyard finally!! Tonight is getting the final touches done, setting up the fire pit & hammock area. I see lots of hours being spent in my yard this summer.
What are some fun things you have put flowers in?
